Save and share analysis

You can export and import Key Images data (Comments and Drawings) independently from the video.
This let you share your work with a  partner, perform several analysis on the same video, or import a set of Drawings from a similar video.

1. Save key images data

After having set a few Key Images and added some drawings and comments, save the data:

Use menu File > Save the Video or Key Images data...

Choose option Save only the Key Images data.

The data are saved in .kva file. (You can open it with a simple text editor as notepad).
It contains the necessary informations to recreate the Key Images positions, comments and drawings.

Note: By default, the .kva file created has the same name as the video, noly the extension changes. It allows Kinovea to open it automatically next time you use this video.
If you don't want the file to be loaded automatically, save the .kva file with a different name than the video.

2. Importing key images data

Open the video and load the Drawings and Comments using the menu
File > Load Key Images data....
Choose the file you previously saved (.kva extension)
Key Images are automatically created at the saved positions, then corresponding drawings and comments are added.

Note: Despite its name the key images data file also contain transversal data like chronometers and trajectories.
Configuration of grids and display however are not saved in this file.

3. Sharing

Save the key images data file (.kva) to backup the analysis.

To share with your correspondant, use this file along the original video. He will then be able to import back comments and drawings.

To ease this type of sharing, it is also possible to mux Key Images data directly into the file ( without loosing the ability to modify them afterwards).

Choose the option Save video and key images data in a single file of the previous dialog box..

Key Images data are then saved alongside Images, without blending the drawings on them.
You will be able to open again the file in Kinovea and modify drawings and comments.
