Great results, Quentin.  I apparently need a better laptop because I get dropped frames at 60 fps.

Thanks, Joan!  When you said you fixed it in the dev version, is that the Experimental version linked in the forum, or a pre-release?  Just checking...

I rechecked the DL_Left_Side file and it re-opened with black on both my laptop and desktop.  (I thought OS might have been an issue, since they run Vista SP2 and Win7x64 SP1, respectively).  I am exporting in .AVI for compatibility.  I can check the other video formats to see if it makes a difference.

BTW, I was thinking it might be valuable to include Build no. with the Experimental version (e.g., Kinovea 0.8.19 Build 0XX), just to ensure we are working from your lasted beta release.

Hi Joan,

I tried to update the bug report No. 291  but it is not recognizing my username/password.

Regarding the issue I am having with the Bike Fit tool not saving and re-opening properly, following are links to a video and KVA file, and an image of the Bike Fit tool after re-opening the video file:

Joan,

Great job on the new version!  The Bike Fit tool works very well and I appreciate your time in adding and refining all the new tools.

I uploaded a very short video that shows the excellent tracking results with the Bike Fit tool.  The video was set to 30%.  Without any markers, the software only loses the foot for a single frame, but accurately reacquires.  This is a very good result, in my opinion.

I did log a minor bug report and I'm still evaluating whether it was repeatable.

Alan

Outstanding!  The bike fit addition is great and saves me a lot of time.  Previously, I had to make 4 different angle measurements and try to line them all up, without moving the wrong one.

I do agree with Dr. Kane that the addition of foot angle display would be extremely valuable.  I coach all my cycling clients on reducing heel rise, so this is a number I could really use displayed.  It is easy enough to add one more angle measurement under the foot, though.

Thank you for the excellent addition.  I also have to say I am thankful for your robust video format compatibility.  It took me an hour to figure out which AVI codec SkillSpector requires.

Got it now.  That is a Casio camera.   I thought you were talking about something new WRT Canon cameras.

Which Canon camera model (s)?   My T2i doesn't show a new firmware update.  The only firmware listed is 1.0.9 dated 11/25/10 so I assume my camera already has it installed.

The T2i will output via HDMI so I suppose you could capture that in Kinovea with an HDMI capture card, but you can't stream HD video over USB 2.0.  It mounts the SD card as a drive when you insert the USB cable.

One alternative I am considering is the Eye-Fi X2 Pro SDHC card.  The X2 Pro version will push files over a Wi-Fi connection to your computer.  It's not streaming hi-def, just copying files.  As long as you don't try to push over 8 GB it should work.  I am concerned about the potential for file transfer errors but I believe it doesn't delete files on the SD card until they are copied and verified.

It worked much better with a laptop that is a bit more current than the first one.

I was able to get it working on the second try.

The second PC has an Intel Core i3 CPU M350 @ 2.27GHz running Kinovea 0.8.15 and Windows 7.  I didn't try 0.8.17 but I expect that to work.

Very impressive.

Based on data rates for USB 2.0, has anyone looked at the minimum computer specs to capture two PS3 Eyes at the higher frame rates (60,75,+)?

I can get two cameras synced up on my desktop but at higher frame rates it drops frames.  The specs are AMD X4 at 2.8 GHz, 6 Gb RAM, and nVidia GForce 9600 GT.

My older laptop completely chokes on 1, let alone 2, PS3 Eyes on video capture in Kinove 0.8.17.

Please disregard last post.  I tried the recommended method for alternating the order of USB ports for first/second camera and did indeed get it to work.

Now I have to figure out why one camera is more "yellow" than the other, with the same settings.  Could be the lighting.

Can you all confirm which version of the Code Laboratories driver you are using?

I am using the (free) CL Eye Platform Driver 5.1.1.0177,  reportedly provides functionality for a single PS3 Eye only.

It would be helpful if you described what cameras you are using?  To start two cameras in sync at the same time, I believe you will need a remote trigger tied into both cameras.

An alternate way to do it would be to use Kinovea to sync up the frames.  I haven't tried this, but you should be able to do it following these general steps:

1. Start each camera in sequence (resulting in 2+ sec delay on second camera).
2. Record video
3. Copy video to computer for analysis.
4. Open two playback screens (View, Two Playback Screens)
5. Open one video in the left screen and the second in the right.
6. Select a starting frame on the first video.  Play the second video up to that point and pause it, using the controls under the respective window.
7. Use the Common Controls at the bottom to play the videos in sync.
8  Option:  Set a working zone in each video sycn'ed by frames.

Another method would be to capture video from two USB or other cameras.  I am experimenting with this using two PS3 Eyes but the computer specs required seem pretty high.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I do not have experience using an Eye Fi card.  My Casio FH100 will record high speed video and then wirelessly transfer the video files to a nearby computer.    Soon I'll try an Eye Fi card for low resolutions HSV clips.  The FH100 camera was advertised as 'supporting' Eye Fi so you would have to research compatibility.

Chas,

I was just re-reading this thread and realized what you were recommending is an excellent option for my Canon T2i!  Using the Eye-Fi Pro X2 I would not need to plug in USB and could keep HDMI plugged in for the external monitor display.  According to the Eye-Fi website, my camera is "Eye-Fi enabled" so it will recognize the card and won't time out while files are being transferred.

Have you had any experience with the Eye-Fi with your Casio FH100 in the last six months?  Did it drop any frames as you were concerned about?

Alan

The SportsCAD software publisher specifically recommends the Casio EX-FH100:

I have not purchased one of these presumably left over (?)Casio FH100 cameras so I have no first-hand experience.

On a golf forum that I visit -

1)  One party in a reply was unhappy with an FH100 purchased some months ago for some issue.

2)  Another party had gotten an FH100 set up for Japanese. He received instructions to reset it to English.  There was some inaccuracy in the instructions but he soon had it working and was pleased.

3) Another party contacted me and then purchased an FH100 from a Japanese supplier that he had found.  He was very satisfied with the camera and purchase.

I have also seen some "used - like new" on Amaz...  $450.

Awesome, thanks much for the reply.

For those interested in full MANUAL exposure control, very fast shutter speeds and minimum motion blur......................

Chas,

I appreciated the link above to remaining new stock of Casio Ex FH100 cameras.   The listing says this is the Japanese version of the camera.  Other than defaulting to Japanese in the menus, which could be changed to English, are there any other differences in the models that we should be aware of?

I am very seriously considering ordering one to supplement my stable of cameras used in bike fit video analysis.

All,

Has anyone purchased from this vendor and can verify this listing and the vendor integrity?

Thanks,
Alan
