Positioning Multiple Zoom Tools

I would like to request the ability to add more than one zoom tool so that I can analyze more than one point with zoom simultaneously. Currently, this is only possible if I open two players of the same video and use a zoom tool on each screen. I believe this is a simple feature that would be very helpful.

Position number Copy to clipboard

Dear All

I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the software you have developed. I find it incredibly useful and use it frequently for measuring repetitive actions, which I then record in Excel.

Regarding this workflow, I have a question/suggestion: is there any way to copy the current timestamp of the video directly to the clipboard? (The "position" part I need frequently)

Currently, I find the Excel export feature a bit cumbersome for measuring multiple cycles, and manual entry is prone to human error. A keyboard shortcut or a similar solution to "copy time" would allow me to paste the data into my database much more accurately and quickly.

Thank you very much for your time and for this great tool.

Best regards,

SR

Thank you, Kinovea team, for providing such a wonderful software!
Could Kinovea please consider the following small improvements?

It would be very helpful to add a keyboard shortcut for the Comment function. If possible, allowing users to assign custom shortcuts to any function would be even better.

The 2× playback speed feels slightly slow. It would be great if the maximum speed could be increased a bit, for example to 3×.

Please kindly consider these suggestions.
Thank you very much.

After using Kinovea for a few weeks, here are some features worth implementing:
1. Greater customization of the timer - changing the font and changing the background and text colors separately
2. Guides - so that when moving elements, it's easy to arrange them evenly, at the same height or width
3. Manually setting the element size by entering the size in pixels

Audio Trigger - ADD functionality

I want to start with kudos and a big Thank You - your software is amazing and I have really enjoyed getting to know your intellect from your answers here in this forum. It's really cool that you are so hands on with Kinovea.

I would like the audio trigger to just drop in a 'chapter' marker or something similar. To explain, I would like to manually set the recording window to start recording, then go hit 3 (or more) golf balls with the audio trigger SETTING chapter markers in that 'mini-session' recording for each ball strike. When I have hit whatever number of balls for this 'mini-session', then review the playback and the fast forward/fast reverse button jump to the chapter with each click of FF/FR. Then I would be able to anaylize that swing until satisfied, then quickly jump to the next swing I want to look at closely.

I have been using the recording delay with audio trigger and that works fine but I would rather view my swing stance/setup/other variables in real time without the 2-3 second delay needed to capture the entire swing. from the audio trigger.

Also - would be nice to have an option for a counter for the recordings as opposed to date time, a date + counter would be easier to reference.

Many Thanks and keep up the Great Work!
Cal

Enable Key press automation to be used as armable trigger

When using the system to capture athlete hitting athletics take off board the operator uses a large key programmed to give the same key sequence as using the main keyboard. However, if the focus is not in the capture window this does not work, the audio trigger will work even if this is not the case. Would it be possible to set the key press as a Trigger and allow this to be armed in the same way as the audio tigger is. The reason for this request is that if the operator has to show an athlete a place in the replay the focus is moved to the replay screen, sometimes, the operator forgets to put the focus back into the capture screen and the jump is then missed even though they press the capture button.

There may be a way already to do this but I cannot find it

Pause on last frame in playback screen

Add a 'Pause on last frame in Video Playback' option to allow a playback video to be played once and stop on the last frame. Current behaviour of the playback screen with replay folder observer set is to cycle through the video continuously.

My use case is Kinovea recording a golf swing from overhead using the audio trigger, then analysing the video clip with opencv to add useful metrics such as clubhead & ball speeds, clubhead & ball path angles etc. This data is summarised on a single 'result' frame, along with superimposed clubhead and ball images, this result frame is appended to the video clip and gives a great summary view of the golf swing. It would be great to have Kinovea play this video clip using the replay folder observer and then pause on the last result frame, which is basically a summary of the complete swing.

I'm currently displaying the video using OpenCV, but Kinovea would be a way more functional tool to use. Note: VLC has a 'Pause on last frame in Video Playback' feature so there are probably other use cases for this as well.

Many thanks
Neil

Reusing KVA Files with different MP4 files

I use Kinovea for indoor golf practice. I first record a video and annotate it so that the KVA file can be used as a common reference guide for subsequent recordings. I then use the reference guides (KVA) when recording subsequent swings and/or when reviewing a video in playback mode.

Using a common reference KVA file with other recordings is problematical though. Sometime Kinovea just crashes when loading the reference KVA file with a different MP4 file. I have enabled the drawing option “Visible for the entire video” but while this does make the annotations visible from start to finish, it does not fix the occasional crash. My work around is to edit the reference KVA file and collapse all the annotation drawings into one keyframe and reset the timestamps to 0.

It would be nice if there was an additional annotations mode that places all the annotations in one keyframe with a timestamp of 0. I think this would allow the KVA file to be reused with any video.

Playback window doesn’t change dimensions with zoom

When reviewing a video in playback mode, the file is opened to show the complete width and height of the video in the playback panel. I use two cameras and therefore review two videos at a time. So each video is opened such that the width fills the playback panel. This leaves a lot of unused vertical space. A subsequent zoom just zooms the video contents (image) but does not expand the video height into the available vertical space. This unnecessarily leaves a lot of the image cropped.

In contrast, when viewing a live camera, a zoom first expands the video height (or width) to fill the camera panel and then continues to zoom the contents (image) using the whole camera panel.

Is it possible to have the playback zoom behave like the camera zoom and first expand the video display to fill the playback panel?

I load annotation KVA files when i open my 2 cameras. When i close the cameras, Kinovea always pops up message warning that the annotations have changed – even if they have not changed. So i have to cancel the “save” pop-up for each camera. Previously, Kinovea only prompted to save the KVA file when the annotations were actually changed.

I use Kinovea for indoor golf practice.

With 2025.1 i have to set the capture folder for each camera every time i start recording.

Hello! We used robocorp markers check-list for our work but we encountered a lot of problems with their location when we started analysing.
Live display when recording delayed video

I am currently recording my golf swing using a 2s delay with an audio trigger. This works great, but I'd like to watch my live display before my swing (instead of one on a 2s delay), then view my full recorded swing.

Is there a setting I'm missing? Is there a way to leverage the retroactive recording so I can keep the live image, while recording from a buffer?

The only solution I've seen in the forums was to toggle between live and delayed video, which is less than ideal. If there is not an available setting, would like to request it.

Forth & Back Video Display Technique for Athletic Sub-Motions

Athletic motions can be divided into sub-motions that are useful for understanding and communication.

When viewing athletic motions, single frame advance is often used. A problem with single frame advance is that the frames before and after the viewed frame have to be remembered. Things are missed.

The Forth & Back Video Display Technique is another approach that I think can work better if the viewer can control displaying the video. I have found that some things are easier to notice and study using Forth & Back displaying. Spatial & temporal information are noticed better. I study sub-motions with it. A sub-motion is anything that is useful for understanding.

On forums it works smoothly with Vimeo videos. A Kinovea video with a millisecond count down time scale is perfect for the fastest athletic motions.

Kinovea Analysis of a Kick Serve. Recorded at 240 fps. Use Forth & Back on it.
https://vimeo.com/196108282
Go full screen, start video then stop video, now drag the white time indicator Forth & Back, Forth & Back.....to display sub-motions of the tennis serve. You can move the cursor up, out of the way, and it still controls the frame time displayed.

With the Kinovea millisecond count down timer, time lines for all joint motions, sub-motions, ball impacts, etc., can be observed and estimated from a single high speed video.

Could Forth & Back also be added as a capability of Kinovea for split screen display with millisecond time scale?
