If the camera is capable of 2, 4K or higher, is it possible to take the photo in higher resolution than the video FHD?

ShiftN is a free program that does great, automatic correction of lens distortion.

In the capture screen it's only interfacing with the video output of the camera so it's only getting the video resolution, even if the camera can take still photographs at higher resolution.

Would it be a tough thing to make it possible to take photos independently, by using a 2 or 4K camera?
