Hi everyone, my name’s Skyler and I’m brand new to both Kinovea and this forum. I’ve been experimenting with video analysis because I coach a small track & field group, and I’d love to give my athletes clearer feedback. I decided to hook up my old Canon EOS 200D DSLR to try and capture smoother clips, since the webcam I had wasn’t giving me enough detail.
The issue I’m running into is that Kinovea recognizes the camera through the capture card, but the video feed constantly flickers between bright and dark exposures, almost like it can’t settle on a stable setting. On top of that, there seems to be a noticeable delay between movement and what shows up on screen.
Before I go out and spend money on new gear, I was hoping someone here could share if there’s a reliable way to stabilize DSLR input in Kinovea, maybe certain settings, Pips NYT drivers, or even recommended capture cards? Or is it generally smarter to switch to a high-speed USB camera that’s natively supported?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey Skyler!
I like that you’re experimenting with a DSLR. The flickering is almost always due to auto-exposure hunting, and the delay is often a combination of the camera’s processing and the capture card buffering.
