I use Kinovea for indoor golf practice. I first record a video and annotate it so that the KVA file can be used as a common reference guide for subsequent recordings. I then use the reference guides (KVA) when recording subsequent swings and/or when reviewing a video in playback mode.

Using a common reference KVA file with other recordings is problematical though. Sometime Kinovea just crashes when loading the reference KVA file with a different MP4 file. I have enabled the drawing option “Visible for the entire video” but while this does make the annotations visible from start to finish, it does not fix the occasional crash. My work around is to edit the reference KVA file and collapse all the annotation drawings into one keyframe and reset the timestamps to 0.

It would be nice if there was an additional annotations mode that places all the annotations in one keyframe with a timestamp of 0. I think this would allow the KVA file to be reused with any video.

Loading a KVA created for one video into another video should work, could you share with me one or more files that cause a crash? (joan at kinovea dot org). A crash is always a bug. Even if the videos have different sizes or frame rate there is code that works it out and adapt everything so if it doesn't work in some cases please help me reproduce the context so I can fix it. It may also have generated a number of "Unhandled Exception" files in the application data folder, if you can share those as well it will be helpful, thanks.

Are you loading them manually or via the "default annotations file" option (shouldn't make much difference but will help reproduce)?

I have a kva file that crashes when loaded onto an mp4 file different than the one used to create the kva file. The camera is the same though.

How can i send these to you?

Maybe i am mucking it up with my attempts to edit the KVA file. However, when i edit the offending kva file and collapse the drawings into a single keyframe, it then successfully loads.

Yes this behavior is intriguing I'm very interested in understanding exactly what is going on. You can send it by email: joan at kinovea dot org.
Thanks.
